Quick Tomato Sauce


  • 1 Can crushed plain tomatoes (you can use diced if you run them through the food processor to chunk them up even more or you can put them in a bowl and crush them with a potato masher – alternately, you can use 16oz of fresh tomatoes, diced with as much seeds removed as you can, then run those through a food processor)
  • 3 Cloves garlic
  • 1/4 Olive oil
  • Red pepper flakes (to taste)
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar (can also use more exotic sugars like date sugar)
  • Salt to taste


Add 1/4 cup olive oil to saucepan and warm it over low heat. Chop garlic cloves and add to saucepan. Sauté until the garlic really starts giving off that garlic aroma. Add in the crushed tomatoes, sugar, pepper flakes and salt. Stir while cooking over low heat roughly about 15 min. Keep stirring as the key is to not burn the mixture, but make sure it’s thoroughly cooked.
